Northside Christian College is committed to providing a safe and healthy working and learning environment for all staff, students, contractors and visitors. The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy outlines the College’s responsibility to comply with Victorian OHS legislation and to take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent injury, illness and harm in the workplace. Safety is a shared responsibility, and everyone has a role to play in maintaining a safe environment.
The College is responsible for identifying and managing workplace risks through hazard identification, risk assessments and the implementation of appropriate controls. This includes providing safe systems of work, maintaining buildings and equipment, offering training and supervision, and consulting with staff on matters that affect health and safety. The policy also recognises the importance of wellbeing, including psychological health, alongside physical safety.
Staff are required to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and for the safety of others who may be affected by their actions. This includes following safety procedures, using equipment correctly, participating in training, and reporting hazards, near misses, incidents and injuries promptly. Staff must not engage in unsafe practices or ignore risks, even if no injury has yet occurred.
Hazards, incidents and injuries must be reported so they can be addressed appropriately and to prevent future harm. The College investigates incidents, implements corrective actions, and meets reporting and record-keeping obligations. Where required, incidents are reported to external authorities. Staff who raise safety concerns in good faith are supported and protected.
The OHS Policy reinforces that a strong safety culture depends on awareness, communication and shared accountability. By identifying risks early, speaking up about concerns, and following agreed safety procedures, staff contribute to a workplace where people are protected, supported and able to carry out their roles safely.
