The Student Code of Conduct Policy sets clear expectations for student behaviour at Northside Christian College and explains how the School responds when those expectations are not met. It is grounded in the College’s Christian values, Mission and commitment to student safety, wellbeing and learning. The policy recognises that while positive behaviour is encouraged, mistakes occur, and responses may include education, pastoral care and discipline, with a preference for restorative approaches where appropriate.

The Code applies to student behaviour at all times, including on school grounds, at school activities, online, while travelling to and from school, and in any context where behaviour may impact safety, relationships or the School’s reputation. Students, parents and staff share responsibility for upholding behavioural standards, with staff responsible for modelling expectations, addressing concerns and informing leadership.

The policy outlines a fair and structured process for responding to misbehaviour, including understanding concerns, investigating with procedural fairness, applying appropriate consequences, and monitoring improvement. The School may implement interim measures where safety or wellbeing is at risk. Consequences range from pastoral support through to suspension or expulsion, depending on seriousness, context and individual circumstances, with final decisions resting with the Principal.

Restrictive interventions are only used as a last resort in situations of imminent risk and must be minimal, reported and consistent with College policy. Clear communication with families, accurate record-keeping and defined appeal processes support transparency and accountability. Overall, the Code exists to promote safe, respectful relationships and support students to grow in responsibility, character and learning.
